IZUMI (Inuyasha fanfic) - Chapter 5: The Promise - Page 2 (2024)

"Hello, Atsushi! I am Izumi' s mother." She smiled warmly. Are you able to stand up?" Mommy asked as she helped him up, best as she could.

"Yes, thank you."

"Atsushi, Atsushi! Let's go outside! You can get fresh air, and we can watch the sun go down! It's my very favorite thing to do!" I yelled, grabbing his hand.

"Woa...Wait!" he laughed as I pulled him out the door of our hut and down the dirt path, towards the meadow. "Where are we going, Izumi?" Atsushi asked under his breath.

"Somewhere, special!" I winked and kept running. Finally, we got to where the place I wanted to get to, the sacred tree! I kept hold of Atsushi' s hand as I jumped from branch to branch. As we finally reached the top of it, where my secret base was, I let go of, now panting like crazy, Atsushi. "We...are...here..." I panted. We both fell backwards, onto the wooden platform that my daddy had made for me long ago. Looking at the pink sky, we began to calm down. "This is where my mommy and daddy met you know..." I said, randomly.

"Really? that's cool!" Atsushi painted. I eventually got lost in the endless sea of pink clouds. Then, it got darker and darker.

"Izumi, I think the sun's finally starting to go down." Atsushi Sat up and pointed directly in front of him. I sat up as well and smiled at the sight. The huge, bright Sun was setting before my very eyes! Atsushi smiled too. "Hey, Izumi, this is a pretty cool place you got here!" he yawned and leaned against the tall tree's trunk, behind him. To my disappointment, his blue eyes closed. I did the same, closed my eyes. Then, I thought about something,

"Hey, Atsushi, don't you worry about how worried and scared your parents are right now? I mean you've been gone for like, two days!" that, was the wrong thing to ask.

"No...My parents are...My parents are dead. They died because humans killed them, and my sister too...but...it's No big deal though, I've been alone for my entire life...I...I can totally handle it. So, I don't have to worry." his blonde bangs covered his eyes as I saw his face get red. Tears began to fall down his face. Feeling bad for him, I ran to where he was and threw my arms around him again.

"I'm sorry! I didn't know!" I whispered in his ear, along with, "It'll be okay! My family can be your family now! I promise, my daddy won't give you dirty looks anymore!" ( that was a lie, I couldn't help my daddy not liking him). "My mommy can be yours too! I promise, everything will be alright, Atsushi." He embraced me back as he began to cry more. I wanted to make him feel better,

"Hey, Atsushi! Look! The stars are beautiful tonight!" I whispered as I pointed in the sky.

"Ya...they are..." he smiled again, to my relief. He wiped away his tears. We held each other' s hands as we lied on top of my tree house, gazing at the bright stars. I had a feeling inside me that nothing could destroy. He was my first, and probably only friend and we will always be together. Atsushi and I were going to stay together, forever, and we will protect each other, just like Daddy protects Mommy and I. The way that Uncle Miroku protects Aunt Sango, Daiki, Haruka and Haruki. We will protect each other, always.

"Hey, Atsushi?" I asked, still smiling about what I was thinking before.

"What is it?" he yawned.

"Promise me..." My voice trailed off into the night's cool, autumn breeze.

"Promise you what?" he asked, curiously. I blushed.

"Promise me that you will always protect me...that you will always stand beside me, no matter what? Promise me that you will protect me forever?" I held my breath. What will he say? I thought, my heart pounding. I knew how weird it was, but he didn't seem wierded out or anything. He just looked, sad.

"I'll promise on one condition." he smiled, sweetly. My face felt hot, I assumed it was red.

"On what condition?" I asked, slowly, hoping that he didn't notice my blushing. I felt his warm hand squeeze mine tighter.

"Promise you won't be like the others, promise you..." I caught a glimpse of tears fall from his eyes. "Promise me that you will stay by me forever as well. Promise that you will protect me, forever too?" I couldn't help smiling with sympathy. He's had such a hard, painful life. After he's had so many fake friends that had betrayed him, yet, he still had the courage to befriend me, the wierd, New girl at school. I began to cry also.

"Atsushi, your...your such a cry baby!" I cried as I wiped my hot tears away. "Even so, I am too. So I promise you, I promise that I will never betray you, ever, Atsushi! I promise to always protect you, and stay with you forever. I promise, as long as you promise me too." he continued to squeeze my hand, I did the same. Somehow, he managed to speak between his tears,

"I-I promise! I promise you, Izumi! I promise!" we smiled at each other, tears rolling down our cheeks. I threw my arms around him, happily. That night...that starry night, we made a promise, a promise that we would never break. Ever.
