Tottenham vs Man City recap as Haaland scores priceless brace (1)

Manchester City put one hand on the Premier League title when they took on Tottenham on Tuesday

Pep Guardiola's side travelled to North London sitting second in the standings and just a point behind title rivals Arsenal. A win would see them build a significant advantage ahead of the final day, while anything less would see them on the back foot.

They did just that as Haaland's second-half brace put them one win within a fourth Premier League title in succession.

Defeat for Spurs was bad news for them, but even worse news for Arsenal. It was perfect for Aston Villa, who secured themselves a spot in the Champions League as a result.

FULL-TIME!

And that's all she wrote in North London as City close in on ANOTHER title.

Erling Haaland was the hero for City with a second-half brace against Spurs. Pep Guardiola's side now hold a two-point advantage at the top of the Premier League ahead of the final day.

Meanwhile, Aston Villa have qualified for the Champions League after Spurs failed to win.

Daniel Orme

Champions again?

It certainly feels like it...

Daniel Orme

Late change for City

Erling Haaland comes off in the middle of ten minutes stoppage time.

He is replaced by Julian Alvarez.

Daniel Orme

Celebrations in full flow

And City fans and staff can celebrate now.

As Haaland's penalty hit the net, Guardiola screamed with all the gusto of a champion.

The supporters are also joining in with renditions of "champions again, ole, ole".

Daniel Orme

GOAL CITY!

And there was no doubt about that.

Erling Haaland fires into the top corner as Vicario dicves the other way.

The title is in City's grasp right now!

Daniel Orme

Penalty to City!

And here's the chance for City to really put a bow on things!

Doku gets one-on-one with Porro and into the box. For some reason, the defender just throws him to the floor with a clumsy leg and a nudge.

Haaland to take...

Daniel Orme

Vital save from Ortega!

They very nearly did as well as Son is somehow denied by Ortega.

The South Korean races beyond the City backline after Akanji is robbed. The City goalkeper comes off best as he somehow stops Son's low effort.

Guardiola slumps to the floor in response. That feels like a huge moment.

Daniel Orme

More changes for Spurs

Just over five minutes of normal time remaining and Postecoglou has turned to his bench again.

Lo Celso and Skipp replace Sarr and Hojbjerg.

Can those changes make a difference for Spurs?

Daniel Orme

Kulusevski again

Dejan Kulusevski is the main threat for Tottenham right now and has a couple of excellent to equalise.

He has fired a booming effort over the bar and has now just failed to get the better of Ortega after slipping beyond the City backline.

There's still more life in this one, Arsenal fans...

Daniel Orme

Ederson furious

Pep Guardiola was forced to intervene after Ederson let his anger at coming off the pitch known.

Daniel Orme

Kulusevski denied

And Ortega is immediately drawn into action as he just stops Kulusevski's effort.

The winger manages to wriggle through and attempts to fire home. It's an unconventional save from the City sub, who effectively sits on the ball, but it does the job as City survive.

Daniel Orme

Double substitution for City

And that's Ederson's last action. The Brazilian comes off in place of Stefan Ortega and he's not exactly happy about it. He takes out his fury on the substitutes bench.

Meanwhile, De Bruyne is replaced by Jeremy Doku.

Aaron Flanagan

More on Ederson issue

An understandable wave of concern roared from the City players as they realised that Ederson was potentially facing a serious injury.

On the benches, it was more like initial fury.

Pep Guardiola stormed straight over to the Spurs bench and aimed strong word and flailing arms in the direction of someone on the sidelines. Ange didn't get involved, but Pep appeared to know who he was going for.

Ederson didn't last, despite making a quick recovery and was subsequently replaced by Stefan Ortega. It appeared to be the advice of the medical staff, who quickly ran back to the bench to feedback their findings.

Daniel Orme

Ederson back on his feet

Thankfully, Ederson doesn't appear to have taken any lasting damage.

He has picked himself up and has got the game back underway.

Daniel Orme

Ederson down after crunching challenge

Worrying scenes here as Ederson is receiving lengthy treatment..

As a cross was tossed into the box, Romero was sliding into challenge, he slammed in on the Brazilian, who has since stayed on the ground.

Romero has picked up a yellow card for the challenge.

Aaron Flanagan

Arsenal fans mocked

Well, it was always going to be win-win for Tottenham when a goal went in - even if they conceded it.

City fans celebrated that goal more than any other this season and when their cheers calmed, there was a raft of "we all hate Arsenal" and "are you watching Arsenal" from the home end. The away fans joined in.

A Spurs equaliser puts both teams in a perilous place, so the next 20 minutes is key.

Daniel Orme

The moment that matters

It was only going to be one man, wasn't it?

Daniel Orme

First substitution for Spurs

And Ange Postecoglou has reacted with his first switch.

Dejan Kulusevski is introduced in place of Bentancur.

Daniel Orme

City in charge

And that title race takes another turn.

City - whose fans are in fine voice - are now top of the Premier League with a two-point advantage as it stands.

Spurs in the meantime are seeing their Champions League hopes slip away...

KEY EVENT

GOAL CITY!

That's the goal they've been craving and it comes from a familiar source.

De Bruyne picks out Haaland expertly and he taps home just yards from goal! We have liftoff in North London!

Daniel Orme

Ederson intervenes

It's Ederson's turn now to produce a vital stop.

Brennan Johnson picks out Son with a low cross. From yards out, he attempts to lift the ball into the net but the Man City stopper is JUST big enough to parry away.

Daniel Orme

Stunning save!

Speaking of hands, Vicario has just provided a HUGE one.

Spurs give the ball away when trying to play out from the back. The ball falls to De Bruyne in the box who swivels and shoots.

Vicario gets a big paw to the ball to keep scores level.

Daniel Orme

Back underway

And the second-half is rolling in North London.

45 minutes for Manchester City to get one hand on the trophy...

Daniel Orme

Man City owners given options

While Man City are currently battling on the pitch, it appears that the club's Abu Dhabi owners have been provided with two options by UEFA in a bid to fix the Champions League conundrum they face next season.

The CFG are set to have two teams in the competition next season, which is banned by UEFA. But the governing body have a solution.

Daniel Orme

Half-time!

And that brings to an end the first 45 minutes at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It's not exactly been a classic but it's exactly what Arsenal and Aston Villa will want.

What are your thoughts so far?

Daniel Orme

Off the line!

Some heroic defending in North London!

City find a way beyond Spurs as Foden's cross finds Haaland. The Norwegien sees his shot blocked by Micky van de Ven.

The ball falls to Bernardo Silva who has a header of his own cleared by Radu Dragusin. The offside flag goes up anyway but excellent work from the Tottenham defence.

Daniel Orme

Guardiola continues to think

You can tell that the stakes are high...

Daniel Orme

Gvardiol fires over

No shock, Man City's route to their latest chance is through Kyle Walker.

The defender receives the ball deep and crosses towards the far-post. The in-form Josko Gvardiol is the first there and fires some way off target on the stretch.

Can't blame him for having a go given his recent run.

Daniel Orme

Dias error gets ironic cheers

And potentially one of the loudest cheers of the night has just come because of a mistake.

Ruben Dias miscontrols a ball right out of play into the technical areas. You can tell the game is in a slight lull given the response!

Aaron Flanagan

Home fans still backing Spurs

The atmosphere has mellowed but it is clear that most Spurs fans are cheering on their team to win - despite the repercussions it could have.

There is a small smattering of light blue shirts in sections of the home support - seemingly of Spurs supporters aware that either side winning is a positive - but every time there is a break, there is still the usual roar you would expect around White Hart Lane.

City are the better team, there is no doubt about that. Micky van de Ven is having a bit of a nightmare at left-back and Kyle Walker is reaping the rewards. You fear with a bit of end quality, it might be a matter of time for the visitors.
