NEOLA, IOWA - An Iowa department of transportation road worker was tragically struck by a semi while on the job Thursday, and he lost his life in the incident.

NEOLA, IOWA – An Iowa department of transportation road worker was tragically struck by a semi while on the job Thursday, and he lost his life in the incident.

According to an state patrol crash report, the accident took place on Thursday, May 16, near Neola, Iowa. At about 9:15 AM that morning on Interstate 80 near the 12 mile marker, an Iowa Department of Transportation pickup pulling an asphalt trailer was parked with arrow lights to warn drivers of a closed lane ahead. A semi driven by 41-year-old Clifford Miller of Pennsylvania struck the DOT pickup.

As a result of the collision, 36-year-old Matthew Dickerson of Neola, Iowa was killed. He had been working for the DOT since 2023 as a highway technician associate, out of the Neola garage. Also hurt in the crash was another DOT worker, 45-year-old Jordan Hargens.
