Honestly thought he retired a year or two ago.
    He had a great career.

Would love to see him back in Lawrence in some capacity.

There was a 3-4 year stretch where he was a top 3 corner in the league . Great career

Huge part of the Denver defense that won the super bowl. One of the best defenses in recent NFL history. Rule changes, more aggressive offenses make defenses like that less and less common.

The story about how he ended up in Denver is interesting. He was undrafted. Supposedly Elway gave John Fox five names and a brief summary of each and said we can only sign one.

Harris was the smart kid from Kansas. Fox had coached DBs for KU in 1983. He selected Harris, Have no idea if having spent time at KU made a difference.

Amazing how a simple decision can have such an impact on a persons life. Maybe someone else would have signed him. Who knows

Saw an interview with Chris a long time ago talking about his rookie training camp. I think he said the only thing he bought was a tv and a game console bc he wasn't sure when/if he'd be cut. He used to stock up on food from the facility so he could save money. Said he didn't buy anything he didn't have to until he knew me made the cut or something along those lines. Funny interview and def sounds like a smart kid. Wasn't blowing that money lol. Great Jayhawk, great Pro! I'd bet he and his SB ring would be welcome to speak to the team. Saw him talking about how nice the new locker room was. Said he'd been in NFL locker rooms not that nice.

Interesting. I have no idea if his brief time at KU would have any impact, but I do remember his wife telling me that they loved Lawrence. I was covering Panthers training camp the year he started, so like everyone else covering that camp I did a profile of the new coach, and since his wife was out at camp I interviewed her as well. I told them both I was from Lawrence and asked about their time at KU (not for the article of course). I don't remember what John said, I just remember that she talked about it in a way that seemed like more than just a polite, it was nice. They were all over the place for a while, and if I remember correctly she said Lawrence was her favorite stop on that journey.

He also was badmouthed by Turner Gill when he was asked about him by NFL scouts, or he may have been drafted.

Just what I need another reason to be annoyed by him. Turner Gill...didn't even know that guy had emotions. Nothing like getting slammed by 50 and his expressionless face and demeanor...and things of that nature.

Why? Did Harris stay out past Midnight one night?

Gill wouldn’t even play him at KU. I’m not sure he badmouthed Harris but he certainly didn’t endorse him at all to NFL scouts.

I don’t know about the badmouthing but he certainly misused/didn’t play Harris that made any sort of sense. He started the other side of Talib in the Orange Bowl as a freshman. Gill moved him to safety.

He had a two year stretch he was the best rated cb in all of football by pro football focus and was top 5 the other years. Loved watching him play

Yep. An indicator of how clueless that guy was, along with the pledge of allegiance to not do drugs at his first spring game. Loser.

Great batch of highlights. I remember pulling for Denver, which is gross, just because of him...oh, and Talib, but I didn't like him as much.

Tuna Grill was a loser from day 1. I seem to recall someone on TOS who was enthralled with him and even called him The Magic Man. The only magic he could do was set records for futility. Can’t believe he lasted at Liberty as long as he did, but most of that time Liberty was FCS

I would argue that he's the best corner in KU history. Yes, better than Talib. An outstanding cover corner, obviously, but for me the thing that set Harris apart was his tackling ability. As good of an open-field tackler as I've ever seen.

On a side note, Mangino could really evaluate. He had a ton of lightly-recruited guys who turned out to be flat-out studs.

Man, those were some amazing years to be a Bronco and Jayhawk fan. My local team and my family school. Got to say ‘Rock Chalk’ a lot to my Bronco friends over those years.

Hard to imagine Kansas football has ever had a better position group than the year Aqib Talib, Darell Stuckey and Chris Harris Jr all played in the secondary together.

Also, Harris seems like a standup person from what I can gather. Happy retirement to him.
