Last month, Charleston County School District’s (CCSD) TeachCharleston Program and Men of CHS Teach celebrated the culmination of the academic year with an event to honor those who have become educators through CCSD's very own alternative pathways.As part of TeachCharleston, the 19 participants honored at the event completed the three-year program, the largest group of completers since the inception of the program in 2018. Over the past six years, TeachCharleston has placed nearly 100 educators in 28 schools and three alternative programs. CCSD held its annual retirement banquet for valued employees on May 28, 2024. It was an evening dedicated to honoring their professional achievements and for district leaders and the Board of Trustees to express appreciation for their contributions.“These retirees have touched countless lives and had a lasting impact on the generations of students they have served,” said Superintendent Anita Huggins. “Their legacy of inspiration will resonate within the district and beyond after their service comes to an end.”https://lnkd.in/epYwg5bp

This school year, CCSD assembled a Special Educator Recruitment and Retention Task Force to look at teacher, teacher assistant (TA), and related staff retention.The task force was made up of more than 70 stakeholders in various roles across the district who gave feedback and offered advice based on real-life experiences. In an effort to recognize the educators and staff of the CCSD, the Pulse of CCSD was born. This employee recognition campaign is an informal nod to those who go above and beyond to make students the heart of their work.In this feature, meet Dianna Luff, a Technology Teaching Assistant at Murray-LaSaine Montessori School.“I think of myself as the school's Grandmom,” said Luff. “I guess I bring that Grammy energy, and I’m proud of it. The Charleston County School District Board of Trustees seeks community representatives (1 Clergy Member, 1 Community Member, 1 Teacher, and 2 Students – one who needs to be a student body president) to serve on the District’s Health Advisory Committee.Nominees must be able to attend meetings and approve training for the purpose of assisting in the selection of components and curriculum materials essential in teaching Comprehensive Health Education, specifically reproductive health, family life education, and pregnancy prevention education as outlined in the Comprehensive HealthEducation Act (CHEA).https://lnkd.in/efR5Xkhr

CCSD's Division of Human Resources hosted the fourth annual Future Teacher Signing Day on Thursday, May 16, 2024. Over 30 current high school seniors made a pledge to pursue degrees in education and return to teach in CCSD after college through a recruitment program called Elevate Charleston.“I am so impressed with this group of future teachers, and their excitement to make their classrooms a place for students to flourish,” said Dan Cieslikowski, coordinator of Elevate Charleston.https://lnkd.in/ejXiau6k

We are excited to provide you with an update on the Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) Budget,which was approved unanimously on Monday night to go to firstreading by our Board of Trustees. This landmark budget has the potential to increase teacher salaries by $7,500 and boost classifiedsalaries to 100% of marketvalue. Charleston County School District staff members surprised North Charleston Creative Arts Elementary School (NCCAES) teacher McKenna Hakanson today with the announcement that she has been chosen as the 2024 CCSD Teacher of the Year. Thank you to all the staff and sponsors who helped make Saturday night's Nautical Ball Gala and Silent Auction an unforgettable evening, celebrating and honoring our educators.All proceeds from the event will help fund the Charleston Educator Symposium which is a three-day learning event designed to elevate instruction and achievement in every classroom across the county.
