CCSD's Board of Trustees approved the second and final reading of the Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25) General Operating Fund (GOF) budget on Monday, June 24.The historic budget is Superintendent of Schools Anita Huggins’ first budget since assuming the role. It includes the district’s single-largest salary increase for all teachers and the adoption of a Weighted Student Funding model for every school in the district.     Last month, Charleston County School District’s (CCSD) TeachCharleston Program and Men of CHS Teach celebrated the culmination of the academic year with an event to honor those who have become educators through CCSD's very own alternative pathways.As part of TeachCharleston, the 19 participants honored at the event completed the three-year program, the largest group of completers since the inception of the program in 2018. Over the past six years, TeachCharleston has placed nearly 100 educators in 28 schools and three alternative programs.     CCSD held its annual retirement banquet for valued employees on May 28, 2024.     This school year, CCSD assembled a Special Educator Recruitment and Retention Task Force to look at teacher, teacher assistant (TA), and related staff retention.The task force was made up of more than 70 stakeholders in various roles across the district who gave feedback and offered advice based on real-life experiences.     CCSD's Division of Human Resources hosted the fourth annual Future Teacher Signing Day on Thursday, May 16, 2024. Over 30 current high school seniors made a pledge to pursue degrees in education and return to teach in CCSD after college through a recruitment program called Elevate Charleston.“I am so impressed with this group of future teachers, and their excitement to make their classrooms a place for students to flourish,” said Dan Cieslikowski, coordinator of Elevate Charleston.https://lnkd.in/ejXiau6k

This landmark budget has the potential to increase teacher salaries by $7,500 and boost classifiedsalaries to 100% of marketvalue.
