Unlike other programs, the California Conceptions program uses fresh and frozen embryos formed specifically for this program. The waiting times are generally only a few months from the application process. Patients are able to participate in the selection process by reviewing donor information before accepting the embryos. The biggest factor affecting the outcome for most patients is a normal uterus. Because the program offers 3 transfer opportunities, the rate of success will usually exceed 95% when the recipient has a normal uterus.

Patients have an alternative to the rising cost of donor egg cycles, the difficulty and uncertainty encountered with adoption, and the long wait for traditional embryo donation.
Donor Embryos
Anonymously donated embryosare a very affordable alternativeto egg donation andadoption with similar benefits. Much like an anonymous adoption, embryos from IVF proceduresare donated to couples and individualswanting to have a baby.After an initial screening process, wecoordinatethe matching of embryosandmanage the preparation of the uterus for the transfer of embryos. Each patient participating in the program is offered up to 3 transfer attempts using one or two embryos. This donor embryotransfer issimilar to usingIVF withan egg donor and sperm donor, and results in a very high rate of success for most participants. With three attempts and a possible guarantee option, most patients are able to achieve their goal of becoming pregnant and having a baby. Donor embryos offer hope to women with advanced reproductive age, same sex couples, and people experiencing multiple failed IVF attempts with their own eggs and sperm.
Genetic Screening Now Available
The California Conceptions program now offers an option for genetic screening of embryos. Preimplantation genetic screening (PGS) will evaluate the embryos using genetic testing to determine if the correct number of chromosomes is present. This testing has been associated with higher pregnancy rates, lower miscarriage rates, and avoidance of genetic disorders such as Down Syndrome. The PGS option offers up to 3 transfers using one genetically tested embryo with each attempt. Gender selection is available if desired at no additional costs. Alternatively, patients may choose to not know the gender of the embryo. The refund option uses the same criteria as the regular program. Due to the high costs associated with PGS, the program will have a higher cost than the regular program and the refund option will not refund 100% of treatment costs. For patients already enrolled in the regular California Conceptions Program, there is a conversion program that will be available for a limited time. This will allow our patients to convert their remaining transfers into 3 tries under the new PGS program.
Parental Rights
Since the donors have waived their parental rights to the embryos, the resulting pregnancy belongs to the couple receiving the embryos. Like with adoption, the parents are notgenetically related to their future children.With the California Conceptions Donor Embryo Program, the intended mother gets to carry the pregnancy and deliver the baby with no legal challenges or problems with parental rights.Intended parentsget to enjoy being pregnant, have their names placed on their baby’s birth certificate, and builda family without the complexities of adoption.
Embryo Adoption
Pregnancy using donated embryos is sometimescalled “embryo adoption”. However, since the intended mother carries the pregnancy and gives birth, and there are no legal challenges to parental rights,theuse of the term “embryo adoption” is not accurate. The term donor embryos is most frequently used to imply the embryos are from egg donors and sperm donors. Donated embryos is the term most often used to refer to embryos that are donated from other people after their own fertility treatments are complete. This is also referred to as “traditional embryo donation”.
